HOUSTON – The family of Miguel Parra is expected to provide an update Monday afternoon after he was struck by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) vehicle in west Harris County, as advocates continue to demand answers about the incident.
The news conference is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 12, near Clay Road and Highway 6, at 16211 Clay Road.
According to Cesar Espinosa of FIEL Houston, Parra is alive but suffered a broken leg in three places and is expected to undergo surgery.
Espinosa said the family remains worried about Parra’s health and is calling for a thorough, transparent investigation into what happened.
“We must hold all parties accountable and demand a thorough, transparent investigation,” Espinosa said, adding that the family and advocates have more questions than answers.
They are also seeking the identities of the agents involved and answers about whether any charges will be filed.
The news conference comes after investigators said an ICE vehicle struck Parra during an incident on Clay Road Saturday morning.
The Harris County Sheriff’s Office said ICE agents were pursuing a suspect with an active warrant. Investigators said the driver traveled westbound in the eastbound lanes of Highway 6 before fleeing on foot.
A 48-year-old passenger was struck by an ICE agent while the agent attempted to box the passenger in near a building, according to the sheriff’s office. The passenger was taken to a hospital with a suspected broken leg and remained in ICE custody at the time of the initial report.
Parra’s family has disputed the federal agency’s account and has demanded his release, raising additional questions about the circumstances surrounding the incident.
