GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas (KWTX) — Killeen’s fire chief has been named the next Fire Chief of the Grand Prairie Fire Department, according to an announcement on the city of Grand Prairie’s page.
James Kubinski is expected to begin his new role on Jan. 25, 2027, pending Grand Prairie City Council approval.
In an official statement, City of Killen shared that during Kubinski’s tenure, the Killeen Fire Department advanced its emergency response capabilities, opened Fire Station No. 4 and the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) facilities developed through city capital plans.
“We searched extensively for the most qualified person to lead our well-established department. I am confident that Kubinski will continue to build on this strong foundation and lead the more than 200 Grand Prairie Fire Department men and women who proudly serve and protect our community,” said Grand Prairie City Manager Bill Hills.
According to previous KWTX reporting, Kubinski was appointed Killeen’s fire chief in December 2020 and assumed his duties in February 2021.
“I have big shoes to fill, but I’m confident I can become part of the legacy that provides great service focused on the citizens of this great city and the men and women of this department,” Kubinski said on his new role in Grand Prairie.
