A 23-year-old man was arrested after he stole a vehicle with a 6-year-old child inside on Monday, according to the Crowley Police Department.
Manuel Hernandez, of Haltom City, faces charges of kidnapping, theft, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, and possession of a controlled substance, Crowley police said in a news release.
Crowley police officers responded about 9:30 a.m. after a vehicle with the 6-year-old child inside was stolen from the Walmart Fuel Center at 1301 E. Farm Road 1187, according to police.
Officers utilized the Flock Safety camera system to track the vehicle as it traveled north into Fort Worth. The vehicle was found in the 1200 block of W. Spurgeon Street with help from Fort Worth police, Crowley police said.
The child was found unharmed and safely reunited with his family, according to police.
Hernandez fled the area on foot but was taken into custody without incident near La Gran Plaza in Fort Worth, police said. He is in custody at the Crowley Police Department.
The investigation is ongoing, according to police.
“The Crowley Police Department extends its appreciation to the Fort Worth Police Department and the Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office for their prompt assistance and coordinated efforts, which contributed to the child’s safe return and the peaceful resolution of this incident,” Crowley police said in the news release.
