A man who was wandering outside a business in northwest Fort Worth stabbed himself to death during an encounter with officers on Monday morning, the Fort Worth Police Department said.

The man, whose name and age the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office did not immediately release, was involved in a disturbance at the business in the 2500 block of NE 36th Street.

The man arrived in a vehicle with two flat tires, a police spokesperson said. The man, who did not work at the business, began wandering with his dog.

When officers arrived about 7:25 a.m., the man yelled obscenities at them and displayed a knife, the spokesman said. Officers issued verbal orders, and one officer deployed a Taser, whose probes shocked the suspect, the spokesman said.

The male then stabbed himself with the knife, the spokesman said.

Officers tried to provide medical aid, but the man died at the business.

Under the department’s standard protocol, major case unit detectives responded to the scene.
