SALT LAKE CITY — Texas Tech opened Big 12 Match Play with a 4-1 victory over Houston on Monday at Salt Lake Country Club before darkness halted its second match against Kansas State with the teams tied at 2.5 points apiece.

Despite cold and rainy conditions throughout the day due to the remnants of Hurricane Rachel, the Red Raiders completed their opening match before nearly finishing their second Pool C matchup.

Texas Tech’s decisive 4-1 victory over Houston was powered by points from Adam Bresnu, Ben Gregg, Price Hill and Simon Hovdal.

Hovdal opened the scoring with a 2&1 victory over Chi Chun, while Bresnu delivered a dominant 5&4 win over Jayk Altic. Gregg edged Sacha Ruiz, 1-UP, and Hill closed out a 3&1 victory over Grant Doggett. Houston’s Sebastian Gamboa earned the Cougars’ lone point with a 2&1 win over Tim Wiedemeyer.

Texas Tech began its second match against Kansas State Monday afternoon. Play was suspended due to darkness with the teams tied at 2.5 points. Bresnu secured a 2&1 victory, while the other four matches remain in progress.
