A Houston native is taking on a new role at a South Texas TV news station, where she’ll soon be reporting from the field and delivering the weekend newscasts.
KIII 3News in Corpus Christi recently announced that Amya Henry has joined the ABC affiliate as a multimedia journalist and weekend anchor. Henry has already made her on-air debut reporting on the Coastal Bend and is set to begin anchoring weekend newscasts in early November.
Henry comes to KIII from KRCG in central Missouri, where she launched her journalism career as a multimedia journalist and weekend anchor. There, she covered crime, legislation, education and community issues. After her time in Missouri, Henry decided she wanted to return to her home state.
While Henry is originally from Houston, she’s still getting acquainted with Corpus Christi. She said she’s especially excited to explore the area’s beaches, try activities like yoga and paddleboarding and learn more about the region’s culture and history.
Henry said she enjoys reporting on environmental issues, education and human interest stories, but she’s open to exploring other topics as she gets to know her new community.
“I’m open to everything. I feel like that’s the best way to absorb into a community,” she said, adding that she enjoys hearing about what matters to residents and how those issues affect the wider community.
Henry attended Howard University in Washington, D.C., where she developed her passion for storytelling. Before launching her professional TV news career, she interned at CNN in New York and NBC4 in Washington, D.C. She also worked as a White House correspondent intern with American Urban Radio Networks journalist Ebony McMorris.
