NORMAN, Okla. (KOKH) — Fresh off a 27-24 upset of Texas, Oklahoma is aiming to carry that momentum into Saturday’s matchup with Kentucky while continuing to search for more consistency on offense.

Offensive coordinator Ben Arbuckle said the Sooners’ approach is simple: do whatever it takes to win.

“When this offense is at its best, I envision us doing whatever it takes to win the football game,” Arbuckle said. “If that means we have to go out there and we have to score every single drive, let’s do that. I mean, that’s the goal on every drive is going to score. But if it’s also to play complementary, take care of the football, make timely plays, then, that’s what it takes to win.”

Oklahoma’s offense showed signs of progress against Texas, particularly in the running game, as quarterback John Mateer and the Sooners look to build on last week’s performance.

Running back Lloyd Avant provided a spark, rushing for 72 yards and a touchdown. Arbuckle praised Avant’s physical style, calling him “the poster boy for wanting to be physical, wanting to be tough.”

Head coach Brent Venables said the Sooners’ focus remains on steady improvement as they prepare for Kentucky.

“We’re focused on us getting better and playing better, doing the basics better, gaining confidence through just hard work,” Venables said. “Obviously, every week you learn a lot about yourself. Certainly, there’s some things that we can build on from last week.”

Kentucky enters the game coming off a big win over LSU, and Oklahoma will try to keep its momentum going while finding greater consistency on offense.
