LUBBOCK, Texas – A warm, sunny mid-October pattern is set to hold across the South Plains through the weekend, offering several mild and breezy afternoons. Other than a few morning low clouds in the far southwest, skies will remain mostly clear Wednesday as highs climb into the low 80s across much of the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Lubbock, south to southeast winds of 10 to 15 mph will keep conditions seasonably warm and dry. Afternoon highs will reach around 82°F in Lubbock, 80°F in Plainview and Friona, and as high as 88°F in Aspermont. Childress and Brownfield will also enjoy bright, dry weather with temperatures in the lower to mid-80s.

The mild stretch is expected to continue through late week as southerly flow draws warmer air northward. The NWS says no significant rain chances are on the horizon through at least Saturday, though gustier winds may develop Friday and Saturday afternoons. By Sunday, slightly cooler air may nudge into the northern South Plains, but temperatures will still trend above normal for mid-October.

Residents planning outdoor activities should prepare for afternoon breezes and strong sunshine. Farmers and ranchers are encouraged to monitor soil moisture and avoid open burning due to the continued dry air mass.
