In Dallas ISD, we are proud of the traditions, sense of community, innovation, and excellent teaching practices that serve our students well. As we build on that success, I encourage our schools, teachers, and community partners to continue finding new ways to help every child thrive.
Writer Maya Angelou shared these words about creativity, “The more you use, the more you have.” Every generation of students brings talent and perspective we have yet to discover. Teachers help those students develop those gifts, and our schools give them room to imagine what is possible.
You can explore those possibilities at Discover Dallas ISD. Representatives from all 228 campuses will gather together from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 7, at the Automobile Building at Fair Park. Families can meet school staff, learn about programs across the district, and find opportunities that match their student’s interests and goals, including in their neighborhood schools, where legacies take shape generation after generation. I look forward to seeing our principals, teachers, staff, and families together under one roof.
The event will also feature an exhibit highlighting the robotics program at Robert and Charmaine Price Institute South, where students can explore hands-on learning.
At David W. Carter High School, students in the JROTC STEM program are preparing for careers in technology. Three student cadets participated in Dallas ISD’s third annual JROTC Aerial Drone Competition and won third place. Leading up to the competition, these students learned about drones, principles of flight, and programming. This STEM program at Carter fosters skills in teamwork, problem-solving, and communication.
Behind strong programs are educators who bring learning to life. District 6 is home to outstanding teachers, including Netallia Rush, who is also a cheerleading coach at Zan Wesley Holmes Jr. Middle School. Rush was selected as one of three educators nationwide to be featured during a national Thursday Night Football broadcast recognizing her commitment to education and athletics. She was featured during the Oct. 8 Dallas Cowboys game. Rush is an award-winning reading teacher, recognized as Dallas ISD’s 2024-2025 Elementary Teacher of The Year, and a Dallas Education Foundation Heart of Teaching Grant recipient.
It has been an honor to visit our campuses this year and reconnect with the staff and students whose work helped Dallas ISD earn its B-rating. I look forward to seeing more of you throughout the 2026-2027 school year.
