Fort Worth issues a boil water notice for Ventana residents after a power outage at a pump station lowered water pressure.

FORT WORTH, Texas — A boil water notice is in effect for residents in the Ventana neighborhood on Wednesday, according to a press release from the City of Fort Worth.

The statement says the order was made out of an abundance of caution after a power outage at the Ventana Pump Station caused water pressure to drop below the minimum pressure required by TCEQ regulation. City officials say a drop in water pressure allows the possibility for harmful bacteria to enter the water system.

The Ventana neighborhood is in the far southwest portion of the city next to Benbrook. Fort Worth officials say the boil water notice does not impact the City of Benbrook nor the Benbrook Water Authority.

Residents are asked to boil water for drinking, cooking, and ice making. To ensure that all harmful bacteria and other microbes are destroyed in the water, residents should bring the water to a vigorous rolling boil, then boil it for two minutes and cool it.

Residents may also use bottled water or obtain water from another suitable source.

The City of Fort Worth will be distributing water bottles in the field at Ventana Parkway and Barco Road, Fort Worth. These distributions will be happening from 8:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. Wednesday, 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. Friday. Residents in the affected area are allowed one case per car.

City officials say bacteriological samples within the area will be taken and tested to confirm whether it’s safe for consumption. Officials say it’ll take 24 hours to run the test. Fort Worth will notify customers when the boil water notice is lifted.
