PROVO, Utah – Taylor Zdrojewski scored twice, but it was not enough, as No. 8 Texas Tech fell from the ranks of the unbeaten, falling 3-2 to No. 22 BYU at South Field.

The loss snaps a 56-match unbeaten streak (54-0-2) for Texas Tech (9-1-4, 5-1-1 Big 12) when scoring twice in a match as well as the Red Raiders 18-match unbeaten streak (11-0-7). Tech also fell for the first time in 31 matches (previously 24-0-7) when finding the back of the net.

Up 1-0 early, the Red Raiders also saw a 287 minute and eight second scoreless streak snapped, as Tech conceded three times for the first time since Oct. 22, 2025, a 3-0 loss to then No. 22/8 Colorado.

On top after Zdrojewski picked the pocket of BYUs (9-3-2, 5-1-1 Big 12) goalkeeper Paiton Collins to put her side up a goal, the Red Raiders nearly went ahead 2-0 twice on a pair of Zdrojewski shots that sailed over the bar and was saved by Collins.

Still down just one, BYU (9-3-2, 5-1-1 Big 12) equalized in the waning moments of the 17th minute on a strong run from Emma Hamerbline followed by a perfect cross sailed to the far post that was buried by Mia Goettsche.

Just one minute and seven seconds until halftime, Tech allowed a second goal when a header in the middle of the six-yard box was headed home by Mattyn Summers-Oviatt. Like Zdrojewski, Summers-Oviatt recorded a brace for the victorious Cougars.

Following the break, Tech nearly found its ever important second goal when a strong run from Kylie Bahr resulted in a rocketed far post shot that was punched wide by Collins.

Three and a half minutes later BYU struck for a third time when Summer-Oviatt slipped through the Red Raider backline and ripped a shot past a diving Addie Todd.

Down by a pair of goals for the first time since the aforementioned Colorado defeat, the Red Raiders scored with just under 20 minutes left when a Raliegh Greason shot-rebound was buried by Zdrojewski.

The ball which was deemed to have crossed the line stood up upon a VAR review.

To within a goal for the first time in nearly 30 minutes, Tech was buzzing late but a pair of blocked shots helped the Cougars close out the home victory. The first shot came from Bahr who

ripped one from 25 that deflected off a BYU defender before being scooped up by Collins, while the final shot was a Hays screamer off a hand-ball free-kick that was also blocked by the Cougar backline.
