AUSTIN, Texas (KWTX) – The Texas Department of Public Safety is seeking information on an unsolved 1995 murder, offering an increased reward of up to $6,000 for tips that lead to an arrest, according to a statement from the agency.
Celia Loya, 30, was murdered in 1995 on El Paso’s east side.
On Feb. 7, 1995, Loya, an office manager at American Sling, called to let colleagues know she would be late to work that day, but she never arrived.
After he was unable to reach her, Loya’s husband rushed to their home along Lake Champlain Street to check on her. He found Loya’s body on the bathroom floor, severely beaten.
Loya died from blood loss caused by blunt force trauma injuries to her head and body, officials said. Officers located signs of a struggle in the living room.
In the years following Loya’s murder, investigators followed several leads and conducted interviews while continuing to examine evidence collected from the scene, but no arrests have been made.
More than three decades later, the El Paso Police Department and the Texas Rangers are seeking the public’s help to find a suspect in Loya’s murder.
Officials hope the public can share critical information that could solve the case, including details about Loya’s activities and whereabouts leading up to her death, or anyone who may have seen her or been in the area the morning of her murder.
To be eligible for cash rewards in this case, tipsters must provide information to authorities using one of two methods: Call the Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-252-8477 (TIPS), or submit a tip online through this link and select “Cold Cases Featured” and “Cold Case” in the type of crime and offense type sections.
