FRISCO — The Cowboys have been hampered by injuries on defense. That will still be the case on Sunday in Green Bay.

Cowboys corner Cobie Durant was officially ruled out on Friday, while linebacker DeMarvion Overshown was listed as questionable to play against the Packers. Overshown is considered a long shot to play, according to head coach Brian Schottenheimer. Overshown hasn’t played since the season-opening loss to the New York Giants. Durant hasn’t played since the Week 2 win over the Commanders.

Cornerbacks Joey Porter Jr. and Ameer Speed, as well as rookie defensive lineman L.T. Overton, were also listed as questionable. Porter (ankle) was a full participant Thursday but was limited on Friday. Cowboys defensive coordinator Christian Parker said Thursday that he expects Porter to play an increased role in what’s expected to be his second game with the Cowboys.

Both Overshown and Durant are dealing with hamstring injuries. Neither was placed on injured reserve for those injuries. The Cowboys already have designated six players to return from injured reserve this season. The league limit is eight per team.

Schottenheimer said they’re working with their sports science team to see if there’s anything that points to having multiple players dealing with hamstring injuries, but they haven’t located a common thread yet.

Overshown said this week that he feels better than he did prior to the injury. He’s been limited in practice this week, however. Overshown said he was hopeful to return against the Packers, but he also understood the finicky nature of hamstring injuries.

“These hamstrings are tricky,” Overshown said, speaking to the injury in general. “You can have six good days in a row and then out of nowhere, something happens.”

The Cowboys, it appears, are playing it safe with both of their defensive starters.

Dallas could’ve used a defensive boost this week. The Cowboys have the 32nd-ranked defense in terms of EPA per play. They’re also ranked 25th in points per game allowed (27.2).

Without Overshown, the Cowboys will likely rely on Jaishawn Barham and Dee Winters as starters, though Shemar James and Justin Barron could rotate in. At corner, they’ll likely have Porter and DaRon Bland outside.
