A man died in Sims Bayou Saturday evening after he entered the water while experiencing a “personal crisis” in southeast Houston, according to the Houston Police Department.
The man entered the bayou near Allendale Road and Mosa Creek Court and later vanished, according to police. A caller reported the incident at around 5:48 p.m.
The man’s car had broken down, and as a witness helped fix his vehicle, the man said he wanted to swim in the bayou, OnScene TV reported. The witness reportedly advised against it, but the man entered the bayou and started swimming fully clothed. He went under the water multiple times, OnScene TV reported.
Police said the man was going through a crisis at the time, adding that they don’t believe foul play was involved. An HPD dive team and HFD responded, and authorities recovered the man’s body at around 10:20 p.m. The Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences, the official medical examiner, will be in charge of identifying the victim and cementing a cause of death.
