Body found near shore of Lady Bird Lake

AUSTIN, Texas — A body was found near the shore of Lady Bird Lake near Longhorn Dam early Friday morning, according to Austin-Travis County EMS.

Austin police were called at 12:12 a.m. for a welfare check after witnesses reported seeing a body floating in the lake near the Wishbone Bridge pedestrian trail, according to the Austin Police Department.

Firefighters recovered the body from the water. Austin-Travis County EMS said the person, an adult, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said the death is not being investigated as a homicide. The Travis County Medical Examiner’s Office responded and reported no obvious signs of trauma, police said. The medical examiner will determine the cause and manner of death.

The person has not been identified. The investigation is ongoing.
