Ex-BCSO deputy arrested for bringing Whataburger to inmate has case dismissed, records show

  • November 12, 2025

BEXAR COUNTY, Texas – A former Bexar County sheriff’s deputy, who was fired after bringing an inmate Whataburger at the county jail, has had his case dismissed, according to court records.

Miguel Angel Rodriguez, 27, was arrested on Jan. 10 for accepting a Cash App payment from an inmate’s relative to buy Whataburger for both himself and the inmate, the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office said earlier this year.

The now ex-deputy was charged with bringing contraband into a correctional facility, which is considered a Class B misdemeanor. He also bonded out of jail on Jan. 10.

Bexar County court records show that Rodriguez’s case was granted a “conditional dismissal” in November, which means he had to meet certain standards for the charge to be dropped.

KSAT reached out to the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office for details on the standards Rodriguez had to meet for case dismissal.

The DA’s office has yet to respond to KSAT’s request.

Before Rodriguez was arrested, jail administrators learned of the incident and began to ask him questions.

Rodriguez confirmed that he had purchased the food, brought it into the jail and delivered it to the inmate, BCSO said.

Rodriguez was terminated immediately following the arrest, BCSO said.

Rodriguez was hired in September 2024 and was later assigned to the Bexar County Adult Detention Center.
