KPRC 2 meteorologist Daji Aswad had some Houston viewers ready to panic Monday when she appeared to announce she was leaving Channel 2 and the Bayou City behind. But her airport farewell came with a catch: She’s not going far for long.

In a video posted to social media, Aswad teased that she was boarding a plane to her new home, sending some viewers into a frenzy before revealing her destination was only temporary. The Houston native is headed to Roanoke, Va., where she’ll spend the next two weeks helping out at KPRC 2’s sister station, WSLS 10.

“So if you’re wondering why you can’t find me on Channel 2, I’m here on Channel 10 temporarily,” Aswad explained in the video, captioned “I’ll be MIA Houston.”

The clarification didn’t stop viewers from worrying about losing another familiar face.

“About to say… hold up!” one person commented.

“There is a sister station in another state? I hope you aren’t trying to leave us,” another wrote.

“Please come back. You’re the best. I will miss you,” a third pleaded.

One particularly concerned viewer urged Aswad not to forget to return to Houston, praising her work, energy and spirit while wishing her safe travels.

Aswad, meanwhile, has been a familiar presence on KPRC 2 since October 2023, when she joined the station as a weekend meteorologist and science reporter. She previously worked as a weekend evening meteorologist and reporter at WISN 12 in Milwaukee.

A graduate of the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio, Aswad began her career as a meteorologist and producer at AccuWeather. During her time at KPRC 2, she earned an Emmy nomination for her coverage of the destructive May 2024 derecho that swept through Houston.
