How do journalists decide what news is? The Dallas Morning News will invite the public inside its newsroom Saturday, Nov. 14, to find out.

“Inside the Newsroom,” one of The News’ most popular events, will take place from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at The News’ office building in downtown Dallas at 1954 Commerce St. Check-in starts at 9:30 a.m. The event is free, but attendees must RSVP. Sign up here.

Stations around the newsroom will focus on different parts of the reporting process. Topics include journalism basics, such as how stories are structured; news judgment, or how editors and reporters decide what to cover; and sourcing, including how journalists find and verify information.

Other stations will highlight how journalists use public records to tell stories and how reader questions are turned into reported stories through Curious Texas. Attendees can chat with writers they’ve been reading for years. Columnist Robert Wilonsky and Texas Rangers beat writer Evan Grant are scheduled to attend.

The event will conclude with a Q&A session with editors.

Attendees will receive a map to guide their experience, with staff members available to answer questions and provide direction.

“Inside the Newsroom” is part of The News’ effort to restore trust in journalism and strengthen the paper’s ties with North Texas. Since 2025, reporters and editors have held in-house listening sessions with residents, community events and pop-up newsrooms across the region to help start conversations with the public and earn their trust.
