The Texas Workforce Commission awarded Tarrant County College $462,352 from the Skills Development Fund to train 164 workers with local industrial partners, according to a news release from Gov. Greg Abbott’s office.

In a nutshell

The grant money will go to DrinkPAK II and GEV Wind Power for the training of TCC students.

DrinkPAK II, a canned beverage manufacturer in south Fort Worth, will train 104 future batching technicians, electro-mechanical technicians, forklift drivers and packaging technicians.

GEV Wind Power, a wind turbine maintenance and blade repair company in north Fort Worth, will train 60 future composite repair technicians.

“The long-term strength of our workforce depends on partnerships between education and industry,” TWC Chairman Joe Esparza said. “These Skills Development Fund grants will allow Tarrant County College to provide specialized, hands-on training that supports regional industries and prepares Texans for high-growth occupations.”
