San Antonians are less than two weeks away from getting their first bite of a Texas-born chicken empire. If you’re worried Alamo City will have only one chicken spot to rely on, we have good news.

Layne’s Chicken Fingers, the College Station-born chicken chain, has been rapidly expanding across the state in the past year, establishing itself as a homegrown alternative to Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers. San Antonio is set to open its first Layne’s, on Bandera Road, on October 27, but the company is already working on what would be the city’s third Layne’s restaurant.

In addition to the Layne’s on Bandera, a second restaurant is under construction at 742 SW Military Drive, San Antonio, TX 78221, but Layne’s submitted a Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) filing on Friday, October 16, that would bring the Texas chicken chain to Marbach Road. So, by this time next year, San Antonio will likely be home to at least three Layne’s Chicken Fingers.

The TDLR filing calls for a 2,430-square-foot restaurant at 1604 Loop South and Marbach Road; an exact address has not been confirmed. The $1.45 million construction project is aiming to begin work on November 23 and expects to wrap up by April 29, 2027. All TDLR timelines are subject to change without notice.

Layne’s Chicken Fingers first opened in College Station in 1994 and has since expanded to more than 50 restaurants across Texas. The closest restaurants to the Alamo City are in Seguin (1510 TX-46, Seguin, TX 78155) and San Marcos (1617 Aquarena Springs Drive, San Marcos, TX 78666). A restaurant in New Braunfels at 2564 Loop 337, New Braunfels, TX 78130 is also in the works.

“We expect San Antonio to be one of the top Layne’s markets in the country, and we’re committed to growing here for the long haul,” Layne’s franchisee Eli Cohen said to MySA. “The west side around Marbach is growing fast, with families, new rooftops and new retail coming in, and we want Layne’s to be part of that. Our goal is simple: hand breaded chicken fingers, real Layne’s sauce, and a place where our guests feel at home. Marbach is a big step toward building something special in this city.”
