LUBBOCK, TEXAS (NEWS RELEASE) – The Sugar Plum Fairy is ready for her moment. The Mouse King is looking for trouble. And Mother Ginger would like everyone to please keep track of their children. Ballet Lubbock’s The Nutcracker, presented by Market Street, returns to Buddy Holly Hall December 10–13, bringing a beloved West Texas holiday tradition (and a few larger-than-life personalities) back to the stage.
It all starts at a Christmas Eve party, where Clara receives a Nutcracker with a heroic streak. Her brother Fritz? A little less careful with the gifts. But when the party ends, the adventure begins. The Mouse King arrives with an army and an attitude, the Nutcracker rises to the occasion, and Clara discovers that Christmas Eve has much more in store than anyone expected.
A swirling snowstorm leads to the Kingdom of Sweets, where hospitality comes with a generous helping of spectacle. Mother Ginger has her hands full, her mischievous children have no intention of making things easy, and the Sugar Plum Fairy and her Cavalier make hosting an entire kingdom look effortless. Add a waltz of flowers and The Ballet Lubbock Orchestra performing Tchaikovsky’s unforgettable score, and you’ve got a holiday gathering worth dressing up for.
With elaborate costumes, theatrical storytelling and dancers from across the South Plains, Ballet Lubbock’s The Nutcracker welcomes families who return year after year and first-time guests ready to fall under its spell. Consider it your invitation to leave the holiday to-do list behind and let a little magic take over.
Tickets are available on the performance page at balletlubbock.org or through the Buddy Holly Hall box office. For ticket questions or assistance with accessible seating, call 806-792-8339.
