Zeldin also discussed Corpus Christi’s water future, saying he and President Donald Trump have talked about seawater desalination as a potential water source.
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Lee Zeldin toured the Port of Corpus Christi on Wednesday, taking a closer look at the port’s role in the global energy industry.
“People’s lives are just so directly touched by the traffic that comes through this port,” Zeldin said.
Zeldin said the EPA is committed to helping the port reduce air pollution through a significant grant valued at more than $100 million.

“EPA is administering a significant clean port programs grant. It is valued at over 100 million dollars. It is important that money is spent effectively. That it is deployed as efficiently as possible,” Zeldin said.
Zeldin also discussed Corpus Christi’s water future, saying he and President Donald Trump have talked about seawater desalination as a potential source of water for the region.
“He’s engaged with me on multiple occasions on the topic. He’s always talking about the topic. He’ll call me up just to talk about water, California water, Texas, or else where. So water is an important priority,” Zeldin said.
When asked where the Coastal Bend stands on the administration’s priority list, Zeldin said Trump has not forgotten about the region’s challenges.
“You were about a third in your sentence and I was immediately thinking of specific conversations where the president has spoken about desal. Desal plans looking at this region. The president is very deliberative in being part of that brainstorming to achieve whatever is possible,” Zeldin said.
