One person is dead after police say the person jumped following a standoff that lasted for hours and closed all lanes of the Interstate 20 and I-45 interchange, snarling traffic on a key transportation route in southern Dallas County.
The lanes appeared to have reopened as of 6:15 p.m. Thursday, according to Texas Department of Transportation cameras.
Earlier Thursday afternoon, at least a dozen police and emergency service vehicles were seen at the location as the incident unfolded. Dallas police said they responded to the scene at 9:40 a.m., and all lanes of the bridge were closed beginning at 10 a.m., according to Texas Department of Transportation traffic cameras. The interstate running beneath the bridge, I-20 East, was also closed. Traffic was backed up for miles on both I-45 and I-20 near Hutchins throughout the day.
Police were seen on the traffic cameras talking to a man standing near the side of the bridge next to a silver-colored sedan. Cameras showed police attempting to speak with the individual before they apparently jumped.
