GREENVILLE, N.C. – Isabella Gutiérrez and Caitlen-Star Dolan Boodram both scored a goal as East Carolina rallied from an early 2-0 deficit to force a 2-2 draw on Thursday evening at Bill Clark Homes Field at Johnson Stadium.
East Carolina moves to 3-4-9 overall and 2-2-4 in American Conference play while North Texas goes to 4-6-5 overall and 0-3-4 in league action. The tie also marks the sixth game that has ended at 2-2 for ECU this season.
North Texas raced out to a 2-0 lead in the game’s first 12 minutes on back-to-back goals from Claire Niedermeier but a Mean Green handball in the box awarded the Pirates a penalty kick and a chance to cut into the deficit.
Gutiérrez calmly converted the PK to make it 2-1 at the 14-minute mark and the Pirates went into the locker room with some momentum.
That momentum increased to start the second half after North Texas was given a red card and the Pirates took advantage as Dolan Boodram scored on a beautiful shot to equalize the game.
Both teams had opportunities to score the go-ahead goal down the stretch including back-to-back shots from the Pirates in the final minute but both attempts were unable to find the back of the net.
Olivia Dietrich made six saves at goalie for ECU.
