HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — A man accused of striking a teenager riding a bicycle near a southeast Houston high school is facing an aggravated assault charge after an incident Tuesday afternoon, according to investigators.

The incident occurred near Dobie High School at a Shell gas station students frequently visit. Witnesses told reporters they saw what happened at about 4 p.m. Tuesday.

According to the Precinct 2 Constable’s Office, Brandon Fowler was in his truck at the gas station parking lot when a teenager rode a bicycle near him. Court records show Fowler became upset, yelled racial slurs at the teen, and then allegedly punched him in the face.

Court documents also allege that Fowler struck the teenager and his bicycle before leaving the scene.

Investigators said video recorded by a witness’s Tesla helped identify the driver, and deputies quickly located Fowler.

Records show Fowler has had various encounters with law enforcement over nearly 30 years, including assault- and drug-related charges.

Authorities said the teenager was not seriously hurt in the incident.

Fowler is charged with aggravated assault and is being held in the Harris County Jail, according to court records.
