EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — For more than a year, residents at Villa Alegre on Edgemere Boulevard in East El Paso say they have been living with ongoing water leaks and unresolved maintenance problems they believe are affecting their health and safety.

Elda Duran, a resident at the complex, said water leaks in her unit have persisted for over a year and that she believes there is mold.

“I don’t like it at all for me, there’s mold in there and then I have high blood pressure. Forget it, there’s a smell that I just don’t like. I always call the emergency number but no they never show up they never come,” Duran said.

Duran said the leaking worsens when it rains.

“When it rains, it starts leaking. That’s why I have all those cans there,” she said.

Asked whether management offers assistance when residents raise concerns, Duran said, “No, no, they don’t.”

Other residents also said they have made multiple calls to management about problems in their units, but the issues have not been resolved.

Envolve, the company managing Villa Alegre, was contacted by KFOX14/CBS4 about Duran’s concerns and those of other tenants, but has not responded.

Another resident, Giovani Cisneros, said water leaks from his ceiling when it rains and runs down a wall near an electrical outlet, raising safety concerns for his family.

“I would put in the report and they would not fix anything, its been two years of me putting in complaints… We have two little girls and that worries us, we are scared they will go near the electrical outlet,” Cisneros said.

Cisneros said he keeps a plastic tub container near the power outlet to catch water coming from outside. He also showed water damage on his walls.
