A luxury residential golf community in southwest Fort Worth is getting ready to open its central golf course.

Maverick Golf & Ranch Club will host hundreds of homes centered around an 18-hole championship golf course. Brandon Goodyk, senior vice president of development at Discovery Land Co., said the club is trying to be thoughtful about every aspect of the development.

“Obviously we’re trying to sell real estate at the end of the day, but we’re also really mindful of creating an elite golf experience,” Goodyk said. “Both from the playability of it, the conditioning of it, the aesthetics of it, every thought that you can think of. We want to be one step ahead.”

Maverick Golf & Ranch Club’s 18-hole golf course will open Nov. 6. The course will be one of the first features of a development that will include nearly 500 residential homes. The community is being developed by Discovery Land Co., which also developed the Vaquero Club.

Maverick is located in southwestern Fort Worth near U.S. Route 377. Other communities like Ventana and Bella Ranch border the property. Bluejack Ranch, another golf-centered home development, is also located near U.S. Route 377.

Maverick’s first phase of homes includes 100 lots and 36 developer-built cottages — which range from 3,400 to 4,200 square feet — Goodyk said. The community’s second phase will include 45 lots.

Lots for the homes range from about half an acre to just under 2 acres and start at $1.5 million and go up to $3.7 million, Goodyk said. So far, most of the proposed custom-built homes have been over 6,000 square feet, he said. The cottages range from the upper $4 millions to over $5 million.

The development occupies about 1,100 acres on the southwestern edge of Fort Worth. The site is part of the Veale Ranch property, a site sold to PMB Capital in 2021.

Transforming a ranch property into a golf course isn’t easy, said Tom Fazio, the course’s architect. A golf course benefits from narrow spaces and framed views, he said. Turning a ranch into a golf course takes some manipulation.

“A great golf course would not make a very good ranch,” Fazio said. “If you were really into ranching you need bigger, wider, flatter spaces. And with golf we want narrower, small, hilly, rolling places.”

The company takes ranches and adds trees, creeks, hills and waterfalls to produce a golf course, he said.

In addition to the club’s 18-hole course, the community debuted a Pinkerton nine-hole, par-3 course in November 2025. The development will also add an executive course in its next phase of development.

Fazio’s company has been creating courses for over 25 years, crafting projects around the world and using different environments. The company’s portfolio includes previous work with Discovery Land Co. in Dallas-Fort Worth.

The two companies partnered for the Vaquero Club in Westlake, a luxury golf community that opened in 2001 and contains some of Tarrant County’s most expensive homes. The club’s golf course was originally designed by Fazio but has undergone a redesign since then.

Maverick’s golf course takes golfers through what Goodyk calls “golf valley” where a farmhouse, dining area and some of the development’s homes will overlook part of the course. The course also goes past an 11-acre lake and along recirculating streams.

If golfers want to be challenged by the course, they’ll be challenged, Goodyk said. Golfers can also select easier sites to tee off.

The course has comfort stations about every three holes for people to stop, grab food or use the bathroom. Over the last 25 years, golf communities have gotten bigger and grander with more amenities, Goodyk said.

“For us here — being more of a primary community where a lot of our communities for Discovery are destinations — this is probably one of the higher amenity-based ones,” Goodyk said.
