There are some thefts that just make you shake your head, and then there are thefts that make you genuinely angry. This one falls squarely into the second category.
The Lubbock community service organization Los Hermanos Familia has had its trailer stolen. Unfortunately, the trailer wasn’t empty. It contained fishing equipment, games, and other supplies used for the organization’s annual “Vamos a Pescar – Let’s Go Fishing” event.
Think about that for a second. Here’s an organization that goes out of its way to give local kids a free day of fishing, fun, and family activities, and some lowlife comes along and steals the very things that make it possible.
That’s about as low as it gets.
The trailer was stolen during the early morning hours from a storage facility near I-27 and Ash Avenue. You can see the trailer in the post embedded below.
Inside was an estimated $18,000 worth of fishing equipment and supplies. That’s a devastating loss for an organization trying to do something good for our community. What’s especially frustrating is that much of this equipment may be of little use to whoever stole it.
Now, here’s where we need your help.
First, keep your eyes open for any large quantities of fishing equipment that suddenly turn up for sale, get dumped somewhere, or otherwise seem out of place.
Second, have you seen this trailer? Do you know someone who might have seen something suspicious around the storage facility? Even the smallest detail could help.
We’re going to do everything we can to spread the word about this awful theft. Our first hope is that the trailer and its contents can be recovered intact.
If that doesn’t happen, we’d love to get together with other like-minded people and businesses to see if we can replace some or all of what was stolen.
This event means too much to Lubbock, and this loss is simply too big to ignore.
Los Hermanos Familia has spent years giving back to this community. Now it’s our turn to show them that Lubbock takes care of the people who take care of others.
If you have any information about the theft, please contact the police. If you’re uncomfortable doing that directly, you can send us a tip, and we’ll pass it along to authorities without identifying you.
And even if you don’t know anything about the theft, you can still help by sharing this story.

Let’s get the word out, find this trailer, and make sure the people behind “Vamos a Pescar” can keep doing something wonderful for Lubbock kids.
The thieves may have taken the equipment, but they don’t get to take away the community’s determination to help.
