Drivers traveling through downtown Dallas this weekend should make plans in advance, as major delays and weekend-long lane closures are expected to begin Saturday night on parts of Interstate 30.
The closures are part of the $888 million I-30 Canyon Project, which will reconstruct and improve the corridor between the Interstate 35E and Interstate 45 interchange. The project broke ground in March and is expected to finish by 2031.
All east and westbound lanes of I-30 — between I-35E and the I-45, U.S. Highway 75 interchange — will be closed from 10 p.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. Monday.
The Texas Department of Transportation will place a detour directing motorists to State Highway 366 and Woodall Rodgers Freeway as an alternate east-west route. However, commuters should still be prepared for congestion and increased travel times. TxDOT recommends drivers avoid unnecessary travel in the area if possible.
