A North Texas school board proposed terminating a high school football and golf coach after an investigation into allegations of misconduct toward students.
On Thursday, Fort Worth ISD presented its proposal to the board with North Side High School teacher and coach Jesus Sanchez-Ontiveros present. Sanchez-Ontiveros has an employment contract with the district and can appeal the decision before the board makes a final ruling.
“During this time, the individual remains an employee of the District on administrative leave. While on administrative leave, the individual has no access to District facilities or District students,” the statement read.
According to the TEA certification portal, the TEA Educator Investigations Division is reviewing Sanchez-Ontiveros. Sanchez-Ontiveros or his representative did not respond to a request for comment by Friday afternoon.
At an earlier Fort Worth ISD board meeting, a concerned parent brought up the allegations against Sanchez-Ontiveros, questioning why it wasn’t shared with parents at North Side High School.
“I need you all to get a letter to the North Side community about what went on with that coach,” a parent said at the meeting. “And I don’t mean his personal business. I mean that he was terminated based on allegedly grooming students through text message and promising them things that he used the money for the PTA to buy.”
The North Side Steers football team is currently 1-6, but Sanchez-Ontiveros was clearly a key staff member, including helping with fundraising for the program.
