CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — La Retama Park in downtown Corpus Christi is being transformed into a dog-friendly space as the Downtown Management District works to make public areas more welcoming for residents and their pets.
Located at Mesquite and Peoples streets in the lower downtown area, the park is receiving improvements as more condominiums and apartments are built downtown, increasing the need for outdoor spaces for pet owners.
“Urban residents like pets, and so we want to make sure that we are providing amenities for people who want to live downtown in an urban environment,” said Arlene Medrano, executive director of the Downtown Management District.
Pet waste bags are now available at the park. Crews have also planted flowers and shrubs to improve the space, using drought-tolerant plants.
