TEXAS — Early voting is off to a busy start across Texas, with more than two million voters casting their ballots as of Thursday, Oct. 22.

Five days into the early voting period, some of the state’s largest counties are reporting strong participation.

In Harris County, more than 384,000 people voted in person through Thursday. Dallas County reported more than 248,000 in-person voters, while Bexar County, home to San Antonio, recorded nearly 177,000. In Central Texas, Travis County reported more than 158,000 in-person voters.

Those county totals do not include mail-in ballots.

Harris County also marked a historic start to the week, with more than 104,000 people voting on Monday alone, setting a first-day turnout record for a midterm election.

The strong turnout comes amid earlier concerns about a voter registration backlog linked to software issues at the Texas Department of Public Safety.

However, Harris County election officials said the voting process has been running smoothly. Earlier this week, provisional ballots accounted for less than 1% of all ballots cast in the county.

Early voting continues across Texas through Oct. 30, ahead of Election Day on Nov. 3.
