EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — With the midterm elections 10 days away, more than 65,000 ballots have already been cast in El Paso County during early voting, according to the El Paso County Elections Department.

One local race drawing attention is the contest for El Paso County commissioner in Precinct 4, where Republican Leo Arcos is facing Democrat Annette Griego.

The winner will replace current County Commissioner Sergio Coronado, who was defeated in the primary by Griego.

Both candidates outlined their priorities ahead of Election Day.

Arcos said his focus would be on “the accountability,” along with “get everything squared away with the budgeting, the vacancies,” adding that “we can take care of the tax burden from the people.”

He said controlling the county budget would be key to that effort.

“That’s something that everybody wants to talk about, and in order to do that, we need to control our budget, and that’s what I intend to do,” Arcos said.

Griego said county government should “focus on the basics,” and said that if elected she would prioritize “infrastructure, health care.” She also said, “I would be responsible for your tax dollars,” and added that her emphasis would include “economic development.”

Early voting runs through Oct. 30, and Election Day is Nov. 3.
