For the first time since 2021, Texas football has dropped two straight games in the same season while tumbling from its spot atop the polls. A three-game losing streak seemed unimaginable at the start of one of the most anticipated seasons in recent years for the No. 19 Longhorns (4-2, 1-2 SEC), but that’s what will likely happen against No. 7 Ole Miss (5-1, 3-1) if Texas doesn’t play better in every facet of the game.
The Longhorns certainly played their best in the first half. The Rebels boast arguably the best quarterback in college football in Heisman Trophy candidate Trinidad Chambliss, but he threw for just 63 yards with two interceptions in the first half as Texas raced to a 24-3 halftime lead. Arch Manning tallied 201 yards of offense and two total TDs before the break, and Ryan Wingo topped 100 yards receiving in the first half.

MORE: Trinidad Chambliss is hard to sack. Texas’ injuries won’t help matters Saturdae

Lucas Carneiro boots a 39-yard field goal for Ole Miss, which bypasses more plays to take an early field goal and try a subsequent onside kick. The Rebels somehow recover the onside kick; special teams continues to plague the Longhorns.
Gianni Spetic nails a 33-yard field goal for Texas, and the Longhorns close in on a desperately needed win. But I won’;t say that kick seals the victory; this Texas team has been creative when it comes to its two losses.

The roller coaster of Texas special teams continues. Alex January blocks a 58-yard field-goal try by Lucas Carneiro, and the Longhorns take over near midfield.
Arch Manning may have three turnovers, but he also has three touchdowns after a 1-yard bootleg run. Raleek Brown sets up the score with a 47-yard run; Texas coach Steve Sarkisian admits he likes to lean on a workhorse back, and injury circumstances may have helped create one in Brown, who has 18 of the 26 carries for Texas RBs and 118 yards.

Arch Manning goes deep for tight end Emaree Winston, throws into double coverage and gets picked. It’s his third turnover of the game for the embattled Texas QB. Ole Miss takes over deep in their own territory.
Ole Miss QB Trinidad Chambliss has turned things around this half. After tossing two picks for the first time in his FBS career in the first half, he has two TD passes in the second half after a 27-yard pass to Horatio Fields. The Texas offense needs to wake up; it has 19 yards on 18 plays this half.

The good news for Longhorns? Steve Sarkisian goes for it on fourth-and-1 from the Longhorns’ 33-yard line and Raleek Brown rumbles for a first down. The bad news? Texas has to punt three plays later. A party at DKR has turned into a rockfight.
The Texas drive ends in an unusual way. On third and 17, Arch Manning has to leave the game on referee orders after taking a big hit on a blitz sack. He removed his helmet, so he may have missed one play for that reason. We will see, but Ole Miss has the ball at its own 46-yard lien after an 18-yard punt return by Deuce Alexander.

Another personal foul on Texas helps Ole Miss move into the red zone, and QB Trinidad Chambliss makes the Longhorns pay with a 6-yard TD pass to Horatio Fields. Texas has five official defensive penalties of at least 10 yards. How will Arch Manning and Texas respond?
Injuries are taking a toll on both teams. This time, it’s Ole Miss possibly losing a star when RB Kewan Lacy stays on the ground after a tackle by Texas RB Rasheem Biles. Lacy has been banged up all season.

Ole Miss has reached midfield on its first possession of the second half. This feels like a big drive in the game. The Rebels have just 156 yards of offense but could pull within one score with a touchdown.
Not a good start to the half for Texas. Cam Coleman hurts his shoulder or collar bone while diving for a pass from Arch Manning, and backup left tackle Andre Cojoe — in the game for the injured Trevor Goosby — gives up a strip sack to Blake Purchase. Ole Miss’s Kam Franklin recovers the fumble for a defensive touchdown.

The sky was falling around Moncrief this week after back-to-back losses. But Texas has responded behind QB Arch Manning (13-19, 171 yards passing, 30 yards rushing, 2 TDs) and a defense that has suffocated Heisman Trophy candidate Trinidad Chambliss (6-18, 63 yards, 2 INTs).
Texas LB Rasheem Biles picks off Trinidad Chambliss on fourth-and-goal from the Texas 2-yard line. After no takeaways in their first three SEC games, the Longhorns have two tonight. Let’s see how aggressive Texas coach Steve Sarkisian wants to be with no timeouts.

Special teams miscues strike again. Ole Miss pulls off a fake punt when punter Oscar Bird takes off for 17 yards on a fourth-and-6 at the Ole Miss 20-yard line. The Rebels are set up at the Texas 5-yard line after a pair of personal fouls on the Texas defense, one on Lance Jackson and the other on Ian Geffrard.
The Longhorns are piling it on, much to the delight of the more than 100,000 jammed into DKR. Sophomore Michael Terry III is getting some playing time in the backfield with Hollywood Smothers and Derreck Cooper banged up, and he pounds it in from 2 yards out for his first career touchdown.

First, Arch Manning runs for 19 yards on third-and-17 and gets up from a big hit with a vehement first-down signal. Then, he lofts a beautiful deep ball to Ryan Wingo for a 50-yard touchdown pass. It looks like Manning (154 yards passing, 19 yards rushing, two total TDs) is responding to the challenge laid down by head coach Steve Sarkisian, who reportedly gave added first-team practice reps to KJ Lacey this week in practice.
Ole Miss QB Trinidad Chambliss converts a third-down pass on the final play of the first quarter. The Rebels have a first down at their own 37-yard line after an eventful first quarter.

A 43-yard catch-and-run by Ryan Wingo and a Beast Mode-ish 23-yard run from Raleek Brown sets up a 2-yard touchdown run by Texas QB Arch Manning. That’s the first running TD of the season for Manning. Left tackle Andre Cojoe is in at left tackle, and the 6-foot-6, 339-pound had a good series on that scoring drive.
The game has gotten wild. Texas quarterback Arch Manning throws his sixth interception of the season, but Texas LB Justin Cryer follows by picking off Ole Miss QB Trinidad Chambliss for the Longhorns’ first takeaway in SEC play. Manning then goes deep to Cam Coleman, who drops a perfectly thrown bomb that would have been a touchdown. Going back to the Trevor Goosby injury, that’s a wild four-play sequence.

Scary sight for Texas fans. Trevor Goosby is down, and the medical staff is bringing a cart onto the field. The All-American candidate at left tackle limps onto the cart favoring his left leg. It looked like the knee crumpled while setting up in pass protection.
Ole Miss responds with a 46-yard field goal from Lucas Carneiro. QB Trinidad Chambliss did the heavy lifting on that drive with 46 yards passing; RB Kewan Lacey doesn’t have a yard on three carries against Texas.

Texas marches 69 yards in 12 plays but has to settle for a 23-yard field goal from Gianni Spetic. Texas ranks 10th in the 16-team SEC when it comes to red-zone touchdown rate (65.2%), and that inefficiency costs them early.
A rare blitz for Texas forces a three-and-out by the Rebels. Bo Mascoe came off the edge to pressure Trinidad Chambliss, and DC Will Muschamp shows some new strategy with sack master Colin Simmons out with an ankle injury.

Let’s kick it off. Ole Miss has won the toss, and the Rebels will take the ball. The Texas defense gets a quick look at QB Trinidad Chambliss and the Rebel offense.
Safety Kobe Black landed on the final pregame injury report for Texas and is a game-time decision. He went through pregame warmups but did not move at full speed. Black has racked up 13 tackles with one pass breakup while starting five games this season, but he’s fallen behind Derek Williams Jr. on the depth chart.
