Local author Anthony Falcon is encouraging students to discover their voices through comic books, storytelling and creative writing at a free workshop this Saturday.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Got a future author, songwriter, or comic book creator at home? A free workshop this weekend could help turn their imagination into something bigger.

Local author and creative writer Anthony Falcon is hosting “Your Voice, Your Story,” a free writing workshop for students in eighth through 12th grade at the YWCA in Corpus Christi on Saturday, Oct. 24, from 12:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

The goal is simple: help teenagers discover their creativity, build confidence, and learn that their stories matter. “I do comic books, stage plays, graphic novels, novels, songwriting,” Falcon said during an appearance on 3NEWS First Edition. “I use all of those things to help rewire the children’s brains to think of writing in a different way, in a fun way.”

Falcon, who also wrote the children’s book “Be Brave, Be Brave, Be Brave,” said many students don’t always get the chance to explore creative writing in the classroom.

He hopes the workshop will give them a space to express themselves without worrying about getting everything perfect. “I’m just trying to help kids get back to that,” Falcon said. “It’s almost becoming a lost art, writing, you know, with AI and everything, so I just want them to be creative and understand that their voice is important.”

With artificial intelligence making it easier to generate stories, Falcon believes it’s more important than ever for young people to develop their own ideas. “The creative kids, they’re always creative. It’s kinda like their gift, you know, it’s like their superpower,” he said. “Sometimes AI can just take that away.”

The workshop will feature writing instruction, opportunities to explore different storytelling styles and snacks for participants. Falcon said parents can drop off their teens to participate at no cost.

“They have a story, and they can come and tell it,” he said.
