The Amigo Airsho wrapped up its weekend of aerial performances Sunday at Biggs Army Airfield on Fort Bliss, bringing the El Paso community together to watch demonstrations by military and civilian aviators.

The event, held Oct. 24 and 25, featured the U.S. Navy Blue Angels and other performers as the Borderland celebrated the nation’s upcoming 250th birthday.

Colonel Michael Soyka said the weekend marked the culmination of two years of planning for the team behind the event.

“Today is the culmination of two years’ worth of planning for our team. I have been like a kid at Christmas the last two weeks waiting for the day,” Soyka said.

Soyka said the goal of the airshow is to create lasting memories for those who attend.

“Our goal here is to create moments. Moments that people remember for the rest of their lives,” he said.

Fort Bliss and First Armored Division Commanding General Curtis D. Taylor also welcomed the community to the installation for the event, describing the airshow as a longstanding tradition in El Paso.

“We are so excited to have the El Paso community on Fort Bliss today watching this incredible event,” Taylor said. “We have done this in its 33rd time. This has been a tradition in the El Paso community, and we are super excited to bring it back.”

The weekend’s lineup also included Undaunted Airshows pilots Stephen Christopher and Todd Rudberg, who performed a two-ship demonstration featuring aerobatic maneuvers.
