J.J. McCarthy and Cam Skattebo lead the way for the Giants’ big Week 7 win over the Houston Texans on Sunday.

The New York Giants advance to a 4-2-1 record on the season after pulling out a 27-21 Week 7 win over the Houston Texans in overtime. While it was a close game throughout, New York’s offense was seemingly the difference-maker, as J.J. McCarthy and Cam Skattebo led the way in lighting up the Houston defense.

Between McCarthy, Skattebo, and wide receiver Malik Nabers, the Texans had no answers for the Giants’ offense. The 23-year-old signal caller finished the day with 252 passing yards while completing 20 of his 28 pass attempts. Meanwhile, Skattebo led the way in rushing with 124 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries, and Nabers reeled in 7 catches for 111 yards.

The Giants capped off the win thanks to a 30-yard touchdown run from Devin Singletary in overtime. He put his former team to bed with an impressive run to clinch the victory for New York.

J.J. McCarthy’s performance was good enough to have reporter Connor Hughes of SNYtv utterly impressed. So much so that Hughes believes the Giants could be on the verge of running away with the NFC East.

“If the J.J. McCarthy that played a very, very good Texans defense is here to stay,” Hughes said on X, “the Giants are about to make a lot of noise.”

While it was an impressive game for the former Michigan Wolverine, Houston’s defense is not nearly as good as Hughes suggests this season. After looking like an elite unit a year ago, the Texans’ defense entered Week 7 in the middle of the pack, allowing 32.9.0 yards per game and 23.8 points per game (averages subject to change after the loss to the Giants). But Houston is typically great at stopping the run (third-best with 83.0 entering Week 7).

The Giants will enjoy a bye in Week 8, giving the club an opportunity to rest and prepare for the second half of the campaign. The team will return in Week 9 for a road game against the Philadelphia Eagles.
