LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – If you’ve had enough of the gray, wet, and cool, weather, hang in there — relief is just around the corner.
After a damp and dreary Monday, sunshine and warmer afternoons return to Lubbock and the South Plains in the days ahead.
You’ll find rainfall totals on my Facebook page, Steve Divine KCBD.
Showers Linger
You may still want an umbrella for possible light rain into Tuesday morning. The bulk of the rain is moving out but a few showers are likely tonight and into Tuesday morning as the rain-maker slowly moves away from West Texas. Or leave the umbrella and don a light jacket to keep yourself dry.
Though cool, Tuesday begins with mild temperatures for late October.(KCBD First Alert)
It will be a cool night and morning, with temperatures in the 50s. That may feel a little chilly to some.
Turnaround Begins
Tuesday morning starts off on the gloomy side with plenty of clouds, possibly some fog, and some drizzle through about mid-morning. By about lunchtime, the light rain is expected to end. Breaks in the clouds will allow some sunshine in the afternoon.
Temperatures will peak near average Tuesday afternoon.(KCBD First Alert)
By Tuesday afternoon, lack of rain and the partial sunshine will contribute to temperatures in the low 70s. My forecast high for Lubbock, 72°, is the average high for the date. Not all that warm, but a nice change.
Best Day
The best day of the week may well be Wednesday. Dry conditions and temperatures peaking about five degrees above average are expected. I do expect a mostly cloudy morning, but a mostly sunny afternoon.
Warmer afternoons the next several days, then a brief dip Friday.(KCBD First Alert)
There will be a slight breeze both Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday. That is, winds will increase to around 15 mph (a range from about 10 to 20 mph).
Next Round
At the moment, Thursday is looking pretty good as well. The weather pattern, however, will begin shifting. Tropical moisture from what is currently Tropical Storm Vance off the west coast of Mexico may stream our way just as a system moves our way from the west. This is likely to bring rain and thunderstorms back to the Lubbock area Thursday night into Friday.
Rain chances diminish next few days before returning late in the work week.(KCBD First Alert)
The weather may not last long, but at this time we have a slight chance of rain lingering Saturday.
Weather Aware
At this time, we don’t expect widespread heavy rain, but keep an eye on our forecast and plan accordingly. Stay with us for updates as these elements evolve.
