Remember spending an entire weekend trying to beat a video game because you couldn’t just look up cheat codes on the internet? What about blowing into a Nintendo cartridge when the game was acting wonky?

Those were the days.

There was something so special about gaming back then. You couldn’t wait to get your hands on a new game, take it home, and play until your thumbs were sore.

Apparently, there’s still plenty of love for the good old days right here in Lubbock, Texas.

Video Game Nostalgia on 34th StreetHub City GamesHub City GamesHub City Games

Hub City Games, located at 3424 34th Street and locally owned by Jacob and Taryn Swim, specializes in video games, consoles, accessories, and collectibles.

The store carries everything from older Nintendo and Sega titles to equipment and games for modern Xbox and PlayStation systems.

They also buy and trade used games and consoles, which means the inventory there switches up regularly. For collectors, that’s super fun. You never know what you’ll find when you pop in.

As the years go by, physical copies of older games are becoming harder to find. Gaming has become increasingly digital.

For some of us old gamers, it’s all about collecting. For others, it’s about showing off the cool old stuff to your kiddos.

Hub City Games also connects locals in the community with tournaments and gaming events.

It’s interesting to see a locally owned business centered around something that connects so many generations. Think about it. Everyone loves video games. Everyone.

And now I’m curious…

What’s one video game from your childhood that you wish you could play all over again for the very first time? Shoot me an email at Chrissy.Covington@townsquaremedia.com with your answer, then keep scrolling for more local business love in the galleries below…
