A celebrity favorite New York coffee shop and bakery will open its first Fort Worth location and another in Tarrant County.
Maman, meaning “mother” in French, opened in the SoHo neighborhood of New York in 2014. Owners Benjamin Sormonte, from the south of France, and Elisa Marshall, from Toronto, started the cafe as a nod to their mothers and early childhood experiences in the kitchen.
The French cafe gained quite the cult following with trendy storefronts that look like a rustic French country kitchen studded with blue toile dishes and decor. The menu offers seasonal specials with fresh baked goods, quiches, sandwiches, salads and specialty tea and coffee drinks like a salted tahini honeycomb latte.
Its nutty chocolate chip cookie was included in Oprah’s 2017 favorite things list. In the past year, the brand has collaborated with Martha Stewart to bring limited seasonal menu items and coffee beans. The limited Martha fall menu includes fall flavored pastries and cookies, chicken salad club with cranberry, tomato soup and grilled cheese and more.
When will Maman open in Tarrant County?
The Fort Worth store is one of six other planned Maman locations in North Texas; the only other Tarrant County cafe will be in Southlake.
Maman in Fort Worth is planned for 1701 S. University Drive, across the street from Panera Bread in the second phase of the Westbend shopping center. According to documents, the cafe will start construction in November with a planned wrap-up date in March.
Maman Southlake will open in Southlake Town Square at 1161 E. Southlake Blvd. Construction has already begun with a planned completion date for January.
The first North Texas location opened in the Preston Center in Dallas in 2025. All Maman cafes are company-owned.
