AUSTIN, Texas — University of Texas softball players brought a little Halloween cheer to families at St. David’s Medical Center on Friday, delivering hand-painted pumpkins to the hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).

The pumpkins were created as part of Texas Softball’s annual pumpkin painting contest, where student-athletes decorate pumpkins with colorful designs and characters.

The players delivered their artwork to the hospital’s Level IV NICU, which provides the highest level of specialized care for newborns.

The visit was especially meaningful for families whose babies remain hospitalized and will not be able to go home for Halloween.

The hand-painted pumpkins give those families a special keepsake to take home and a way to celebrate the holiday while their little ones receive care.
