AC/DC played Lubbock three times! It’s crazy to think that one of the biggest rock bands on the planet has visited the Hub City multiple times, and somehow I missed every opportunity to see them.

The band played here in 1978, 1979, and 1988. That means Lubbock got two shows with Bon Scott and one with Brian Johnson.

I guess I missed the first one because I hadn’t moved to Lubbock yet. I missed the second because I had just arrived, and there wasn’t a rock radio station here to promote it. As for the third show, I was off on my radio adventures in Austin, Texas, and Spokane, Washington.

Some of you lucky devils actually got to see all three shows. I am about as jealous as aperson can possibly be right now. Still, I’m going to be magnanimous enough to provide you with some concert flashbacks.

I pulled the setlists from setlist.fm and compiled one master list showing which songs AC/DC played in Lubbock and the years they played them. Keep in mind that these setlists are independently submitted, so there could be a few errors or omissions, but they should give us a pretty good picture of what went down.

The 1978 show was a short middle set with Aerosmith as the headliner and Point Blank as the opener. The 1979 show was a headliner gig with Molly Hatchet on the bill. They headlined over Cinderella for the 1988 show.

As you’ll notice, only two songs appeared at all three Lubbock concerts. That’s a pretty interesting bit of rock history right there.
