Sam Houston was knocking on the door last week to get their first victory of the season in a two-point loss to Jacksonville State. There are no silver linings in college football, but they can build on that showing.

To get their first win of the year, the Bearkats’ defense is going to have to improve from what they have shown so far. They have given up at least 29 points every game this year and allowed at least 37 in five of six games.

UTEP doesn’t have the defensive issues. Their struggle has been on the offensive side of the ball, scoring just 14.5 points per game. So, that pits us with a stoppable force against a movable object in this game.

UTEP has the slightly better offense and the better defense in this one, which is enough to get it done in Houston on Wednesday night.

Prediction: UTEP 26, Sam Houston 21

Best Bet: UTEP -2.5
