SAN ANTONIO — A new H-E-B store has officially opened its doors today on the Far East Side near Converse, marking another big milestone for one of the area’s fastest-growing communities.

The store sits at the intersection of Interstate 10 and Loop 1604 East.

We’ve been following development in East Bexar County as more families move in and see increased retail and grocery options. H-E-B expects the new 125,000-square-foot location to create more than 400 jobs, boosting employment and services in the area.

General Manager Will Tate, who grew up in the community and has worked for H-E-B for more than 30 years, said, “I have some deep roots in this community. I grew up here,” Tate said. “I’m looking forward to working with our Partners to create a store environment that both serves and celebrates the people in this community.”

Shoppers will find several specialty departments, including a bakery with fresh tortillas, a Sushiya section, a meat market featuring Prime and Wagyu beef and a seafood department. The store also features a True Texas BBQ restaurant with indoor seating, a pharmacy with drive-thru service, more than 30 dedicated curbside parking spaces and home delivery.

Additional amenities include Meal Simple prepared meals, a Cooking Connection with live demonstrations, an extensive beer and wine selection, a floral department and a Texas Backyard section with plants and gardening supplies.

The opening comes as the region continues to experience rapid growth. The area near Converse has seen about 17% more residents since 2020 and is expected to grow by another 10% in the next four years. The new H-E-B aims to meet the needs of East Side neighborhoods and commuters from Seguin, La Vernia and surrounding communities.

Development around the store will add more retail buildings and business spaces by the end of March, bringing new services and shopping opportunities to local families. To celebrate the opening, H-E-B has donated $25,000 to Boysville San Antonio, an organization that helps children and young adults who have faced abuse, neglect or family challenges.

H-E-B’s investment affirms the continued growth and promise of East Bexar County, expanding options for groceries, dining and hiring to support the community’s next chapter.
