EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — With under a week to go before the midterm election, gubernatorial candidates for Texas are holding their final rallies in El Paso.

The Democratic nominee for Texas Governor, Gina Hinojosa, is in the Sun City on Wednesday, Oct. 28, with incumbent Greg Abbott expected to stop on Thursday, Oct. 29.

Her event is expected to kick off at 6 p.m. at the Epic Railyard.

Prior to her rally, Hinojosa visited the University of Texas at El Paso and spoke with students about some of her campaign topics.

Hinojosa, like other Democratic candidates, is hopeful to flip Texas blue, with polls showing her race with Abbott to be a close one.

She had some of El Paso’s top Democrats join her, including U.S. Rep. Veronica Escobar, D-Texas, and former Congressman Beto O’Rourke on UTEP campus.

As well, the Governor of New Mexico, Michelle Lujan Grisham, joined Hinojosa to show her support.

The polls say this is a competitive race in a stronghold for the GOP. Republicans are fighting to keep control of leadership in the Lone Star State, while Democrats see an opportunity for change.
