An El Paso County sheriff’s deputy is accused of distributing contraband to inmates at the jail while he was on duty, the Sheriff’s Office announced Thursday.

Nicholas Guerrette, a jail guard, had been under investigation for months before his arrest and has been placed on unpaid administrative leave.

Detectives became aware of alleged contraband distribution in November 2025 and later determined he transferred “contraband and illicit drugs,” according to the Sheriff’s Office.

It is unclear what type of drug he is accused of distributing. A court clerk denied The Gazette’s request to obtain Guerrette’s arrest affidavit because the record is sealed.

Guerrette, 29, was arrested and booked into the Teller County jail and had not posted his $100,000 bond as of Thursday afternoon.

He is expected to face charges of unlawful distribution, manufacturing, dispensing or sale of a controlled substance, possession with intent to distribute, possession of contraband, official misconduct and conspiracy to possess contraband.

Colorado court records show he does not have any other criminal case history in the state.

The Sheriff’s Office hired Guerrette in October 2023, according to a release.
