The inaugural event will raise support for scholarships and preservation of the 1878 landmark, with performances by UT students and soprano Jasmine Williams.
A historic Austin venue will host a new fundraiser focused on two goals: preserving the Millett Opera House and helping students pursue degrees in the arts.
The Millett Opera House Foundation’s inaugural Legacy Luncheon is set for Nov. 5 at The Austin Club, housed in the 1878 opera house at 110 E. Ninth St. The foundation says proceeds will support the building’s preservation and its Millett Legacy Scholarship for students pursuing education in the fine, performing and culinary arts.
The scholarship will give special consideration to first-generation college students and those with demonstrated financial need, according to the foundation. The organization has not listed the number or dollar amount of scholarships planned for this year.
The program will include a keynote address by entrepreneur, artist and author Gay Gaddis, with Quan Cosby as emcee. Soprano Jasmine Williams is scheduled to perform, along with students from the University of Texas College of Fine Arts. Culinary students from the Auguste Escoffier School of Culinary Arts will create and present a dessert.
