SAN ANTONIO – Tx — A family is mourning the loss of a husband and father of four after a tragic accident at their Westside home.
33-year-old Jesus Lucio Colin was working on his van on Wednesday when it fell on him.
His wife, Kasey Rae Berry says she and her husband celebrated their 15-year-anniversary on Saturday. She never imagined she’d be planning his funeral four days later.
“It was very hard,” Berry said. “I kept beating myself up. Why didn’t I tell him don’t do this right now. It’s late at night.”
Colin, who went by the name Chino was repairing an alternator on his work van Wednesday night. Kasey says she went outside to bring him a funnel cake she and her daughter had made when she found him crushed under the van.
“He was under the truck,” Berry said. “Like normal. Lights on. Music on. I kicked his foot. He didn’t say anything back. I didn’t think anything of it. We joke around a lot. I looked at him. I said, babe. Chino. He wasn’t responsive, and then I took a closer glance. Then I saw what was happening.”
Berry says her neighbors ran over to lift the van off of Chino, but he was already gone.
“It hit him in his temple,” Berry said. “He turned his head to left side, and it just got him right in the temple. It was on impact.”
Berry wants everyone to know that Chino took safety precautions. He had a jack lift and a jack stand. She says her children can’t understand why their dad hasn’t come home. Chino’s daughter is turning ten on Monday.
She wants her husband to be remembered as a caring man who touched the lives of many through his involvement coaching youth sports, which she called his passion.
