He received his GED from Polytechnic Senior High School in 1970 and joined the United States Air Force in 1971. Rodney worked as a truck driver for many years. He loved the open road and truly enjoyed his time as a freight hauler until his retirement. Those who knew him may have known him by many names, including Dad, Paw Paw, Uncle Rodney, or even his CB handle, “Quarter Mule.” As an avid Dallas Cowboys fan, Rodney never missed a game, no matter the circumstances. Win or lose, he remained loyal to his team. He also loved cars and enjoyed building model cars and trucks in his spare time. Over the years, he owned several vehicles, including a Ford Mustang, a Chevy Corvette, a Dodge Challenger, various Chevy trucks, and a Chevy Camaro, along with other muscle cars during his younger years. Rodney had a silly side that not everyone was fortunate enough to see. Beneath that playful side was a sensitive man who was never afraid to shed a tear while watching television. Above all, he loved his family more than they may have ever realized. His four children, thirteen grandchildren, and twelve great-grandchildren brought him a love that words could never fully express. Rodney was the oldest living son in his family. He had an older sister, Linda Carol, who passed away shortly after birth, followed by his younger brother, Roger, and younger sisters, Gay Lynn and Shirley. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph Torrence and Peggy Torrence; his stepmother, Sue Torrence; and his siblings, Linda Carol Torrence, Roger Torrence, and Gay Lynn Esquivel. Rodney is survived by his sister, Shirley Owens, and her husband, Chad, of The Colony; his four children, Rodney Torrence, Jr., and his wife, Christine, of Ponder; Chad Torrence and his wife, Claudia, of Bulverde; Sean Torrence and his wife, Brooke, of Rowlett; and Heather Sweeney and her husband, Michael, of Haslet; thirteen grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Rodney will be remembered for his love of family, his unwavering loyalty to the Cowboys, and his passion for cars. Those who were fortunate enough to see his silly side knew a special part of him, while those closest to him knew the sensitive heart he carried. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. MOUNT OLIVET CHAPEL Greenwood Funeral Homes – Cremation 2301 N. Sylvania Avenue, Fort Worth 76111 817-831-0511
