Supporters were bused into Fort Worth from surrounding rural counties for U.S. Senate nominee Ken Paxton’s campaign stop Saturday morning.
The Republican attorney general has been trailing in the polls heading into Election Day on Tuesday. Lt. Gov Dan Patrick, a Houston Republican, spoke last week in Mansfield, warning that thousands fewer Republican voters had gone to the voting booth compared to Democrats.
When Paxton’s Democratic opponent, James Talarico, came to Fort Worth to rally on the first day of early voting, there were roughly 1,400 in the audience. Paxton’s rally on the same day saw about 250 people.
The 10 a.m. rally Saturday drew about 175 people, about 70 of whom arrived on a charter bus from Runaway Bay in Wise County. Cullen Yards, where the event took place, is in what Republicans claim as the last red urban county in the United States, Tarrant County.
JD Enright, Paxton’s longtime friend, paid for the bus and told the Star-Telegram there were people from Wise County and Jack County loaded up to support the Republican nominee. When the attendees stepped off the bus, Enright was there to shake every hand, and thank them for coming.
